Autumn fruits of the SIMARINE-NATURA project

In the scope of the project SIMARINE-NATURA we organized the second workshop for the stakeholders in November. The aim of the workshop was to present the results of the ecological study of the Mediterranean Shag and the protocol for acting in case of accidental oil spills and oiled seabirds in the Slovenian sea. We are collecting data about large groups of the Mediterranean Shags

The autumn has come and you have been given a high chance of observing an interesting phoenomenon – large groups of the Mediterranean Shags, which consist of tens or even hundreds of individuals! If you see a group of more than ten individuals in the Slovenian sea, we will be grateful to receive information about your sightings. You are welcome to fill in this form. This way you will contribute to our knowledge about the distribution of the Mediterranean Shags in the Slovenian sea and thus to better planning of their conservation.

We thank you for your contribution!

DOPPS – BirdLife Slovenia contributes to EMFF Operative programming in Slovenia

In the middle of April, the European Parliament (EP) gave the rubber stamp to the final deal on the European Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF) – €6.5 billion to support the EU’s fishery and maritime policies from 2014 to 2020. The new fund offers improved opportunities for investment in fisheries recovery and the environment, but still includes too many options for perverse subsidies.

The SIMARINE-NATURA project extended for six months, we welcomed the European Commission for project monitoring

In the beginning of this year we addressed to the European Commission a request for SIMARINE-NATURA project end postponement. At the end of March the Commission informed us that our request had been approved. We appreciate very much this six months extension – the new project end date is now 31.8.2015.
