After reporting about three more tagged Shags, Bepo, Ante and Tonin, we intensively continued with the field work on the coast by the town of Isola. Our effort was fruitful since we tagged another seven Shags between 18th July and 27th August. The field work in action “Shag telemetry” was thus successfully completed at the end of the summer, according to our plans.
Ilija, Ivek, Jura, Dado, Oto, Ogi and Roko all accomplished their mission since they provided a nice set of data. Despite the fact that some GPS devices already stopped working we have got enough data to define characteristics of their home ranges at Slovenian sea.
Currently there are six Shags wearing working GPS devices present at our sea: Mihi and Jakomo have been staying in the surroundings of Isola since last year, and are now accompanied by another two Shags, Dado and Roko which were tagged this summer. Nikola is staying in the Gulf of Capodistria, while Bepo still flies from the beach of Isola towards open sea several times a day, but since recently, not further than 3 km offshore.
In the meanwhile we got information from the Ornithological Institute in Zagreb about ringing of the Shag Ante. Orange plastic ring with black code P74 was attached to Ante when it was a nestling, on 20.4.2010, by Croatian ornithologist Andrej Radalj (appears in the short movie) on a small island of Oruda east from island of Lošinj. Ante is still staying at our sea, in the vicinity of communal roosting site near the Sečovlje Saltpans.
Data about all captured Shags are available here.
